Brief description of role or responsibilities
May is the current clinical coordinator at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre in Surrey. As the coordinator for the outpatient site, she is involved in both distribution and clinical activates to ensure safe and seamless is care is provided to patient’s who transition from acute care to the community.
Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:
May has been a role model and amazing mentor to me since my first day starting as a new graduate from the LMPS residency program working in outpatient care.
As a resident completing in-patient acute care program residency, the outpatient care model was a new experience for me. Throughout my training in the outpatient ID clinics and later when I started to cover the unit May was always approachable and available to review complicated ID cases with me. She encouraged and supported me through my first year and half as I became more comfortable with the outpatient care structure. Later when I decided to continue my studies and obtain a PharmD, May shared her expertise, and encourage me to always think outside of the box and challenge myself to find what I would like to gain from further training.
What has enlightened me throughout the past couple of years working with May, is her passion for outpatient care setting. Ambulatory care setting is a unique area where pharmacist focuses on patient centered care, comprehensive medication management, and developing long-term relationships with patient, thus having a mentor who is an inspiring personal and passionate about her role is an asset.
