Brief description of role or responsibilities
Ricky is a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in Cardiology and Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:
When Pharmacists start working at Saint Paul’s Hospital, their orientation involves pit stops across the various pharmacy services in the department. One such block is “Research Pearls”, where I first met Ricky. As a new pharmacist looking for experience in research, he encouraged me to join the newly founded SPH Research Committee.
Prior to our meeting, I already knew Ricky as an incredible clinician and an exceptional researcher. I soon learned his drive to innovate his own practice is matched by his sincere commitment to his colleagues. Despite the many hats he wears, he always carves out the time to readily offer up his expertise.
Research is hard – and can be daunting to those trying it out on their own for the first time. In addition to his invaluable wealth of knowledge, I have been struck by Ricky’s consistent support and encouragement. It’s truly inexplicable – no matter the setbacks, reaching out to him somehow always leaves me more motivated than I started with.
What initially started as “Research” Pearls has soon grown to influence all other aspects of my practice. Working with Ricky has fundamentally changed how I precept learners and redefined my belief on what it means to be a graceful and supportive educator.
