Brief description of role or responsibilities
Dr. Nilu Partovi is a Clinical Coordinator and Pharmacotherapeutic Specialist in Solid Organ Transplantation at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). She is also a Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC. Dr. Partovi manages the clinical pharmacy program, and practices as a pharmacy practitioner to provide direct patient care to transplant patients. Her research interests are in solid organ transplantation, hepatology, pharmacokinetics of immunosuppressants, and pharmacy practice.
Description of how they are a great mentor or has positively influenced you and the pharmacy profession:
Nilu has been a supervisor and mentor to all our pharmacy staff, including our pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants. She is always devoted to enhancing patient care services and ensures that the pharmacy program is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our patients. This is evident in the achievements of her pharmacy staff, as highly-qualified practicing pharmacy practitioners, technicians and assistants.
As an administrator, Nilu is a dedicated and effective leader. She is approachable with an “open door policy” and is always looking for ways to assist her staff, so that they can reach their fullest potential in providing the best care for their patients. She leads by example and is always advocating for pharmacy engagement in all aspects of hospital-associated initiatives. Nilu is familiar with both our clinical and distribution services and believes it is important for us to be proficient in both areas. She is always advocating for the pharmacy profession, which has resulted in a strong inpatient and ambulatory pharmacy program.
As a clinician, Nilu practices as a Solid Organ Transplantation pharmacist at VGH. She is highly regarded and respected for her knowledge, pro-activeness, and leadership. Nilu is a resource to our pharmacists, physicians, and allied healthcare professionals. She is readily approachable and is always available to provide her insight and knowledge. As a practitioner, Nilu works in a multi-disciplinary team environment, contributing to the advancement of patient care. These are all characteristics that are attributable to excellence as a mentor.
Academically, Nilu is a Clinical Professor and is greatly involved with the university, through the training of Doctor of Pharmacy students and involvement in clinical research. Her accessibility and straightforward manner make her an effective educator. Nilu is effective as a teacher, and she is always willing to listen and assist her students and staff in developing their inherent skills. It is evident that she has a strong ability in nurturing and teaching.
Professionally, Nilu continues to be an active member of the CSHP both locally and nationally. She continues to be a strong advocate for the advancement of pharmacy through her involvement with CSHP, Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services, and UBC.
We believe that Nilu exemplifies the fundamental characteristics of a leader and mentor. She practices at a high-level as an advanced pharmacy practitioner and administrator, is involved in the development of her pharmacy staff, and promotes the pharmacy profession through her work. These are all characteristics that are attributable to a pharmacy mentor.
