Brief description of role or responsibilities
Kaitlyn is the pharmacy technician responsible for Purchasing at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. She orders and receives all the medications that come to the pharmacy and keeps all our drug stock organized. She is on top of expiry dates, drug shortages and ensuring we have the correct quantities on hand of everything we need.
Description of roles to improve patient care or provide pharmacy services during the COVID-19 pandemic
Kaitlyn has been instrumental in the handling of our COVID vaccines. We are a depot site for both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. She has been steadfast in her ability to deal with the ever-changing demands on us to receive and deliver COVID vaccine to public health clinics, and other pharmacy sites. Kaitlyn has sacrificed numerous weekends to ensure that the vaccines are handled appropriately and are provided to the clinics on time. With an ever number of changing forms and procedures, she has kept everything organized and up to date. This was all new to us, but Kaitlyn has been a calm steady force throughout and we would not have been able to manage this without her.
Description of impact to improve patient care or provide pharmacy services during the COVID-19 pandemic
The impact of Kaitlyn’s efforts are that the vaccine is being stored and delivered in a safe and efficient manner and the teams that we serve can rely on us to deliver what is needed.
