Clinical Pharmacy Specialist

Brief description of role or responsibilities

Erin works as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (CPS), Research Support, at BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital. Erin’s role is pivotal to helping patients access investigational therapies, often when all available alternatives have been exhausted, by means of facilitating clinical trials set up. She continuously works to navigate the grey zone, balancing the multitude of requirements for clinical trials including site practices, provincial regulations, federal and international considerations.

Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:

Being trained by and working alongside Erin for the past year has been an incredible learning experience. Erin’s strength as a mentor and pharmacist stems from her dedication to ensuring patients receive access to therapies through available clinical trials. She practices an open demeanor and transparency, as she shares her thought processes navigating grey zones and welcomes input at all stages. In doing so, she allows both approaches to transcend into creating a collaborative environment and instills curiosity —a fundamental lens by which to navigate working in an area where not all answers are seamless. Over the past year, I’ve developed newfound skills and knowledge working in a nuanced and unique area that I could not have imagined prior.

Erin’s depth and breadth of knowledge is inspiring, and so evident through the interactions and trust clinical study teams have in her. Working today as colleagues, I can say Erin’s open demeanor and transparency extends beyond just research team members. Erin is truly a talented and kind pharmacist, and I am forever grateful I have the opportunity to work and learn alongside someone as awe-inspiring as her.
