Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:
When I first started at RCH, I was assigned to cover several surgical wards, areas that were new to me. One of my biggest challenges was pain management, and Kseniya quickly became an invaluable mentor. She was always available to answer my questions, and when I expressed interest in learning how to talk to patients about their pain, she guided me with thoughtful, open-ended questions to ask. More importantly, she instilled in me the confidence to have these conversations independently. Thanks to her guidance, I now feel much more comfortable discussing pain management with patients.
Over the years, I have seen firsthand that Kseniya is not just a mentor to me, but also to pharmacists, nurses, doctors, residents, and students. I have witnessed countless health care professionals seek her expertise, and she never hesitates to share her knowledge. Most recently, she delivered a Grand Rounds presentation to medical students and residents at RCH, further demonstrating her dedication to education. Her accomplishments are too numerous to list, but one that stands out and positively impacts me is her work, alongside Karen Ng, in developing the Fraser Health Pain and Opioid Stewardship App—a resource that I frequently use in my day to day practice as a clinical pharmacist.
Beyond pain management, Kseniya has also played a key role in my growth in other areas. As the co-chair of the RCH Pharmacy Education Committee, she has been an invaluable resource whenever I needed guidance on organizing students’/residents’ presentations within our department.
I am grateful for Kseniya’s mentorship and unwavering support. Her dedication, expertise, and generosity have made a lasting impact on my career.
Thank you, Kseniya, for all that you do!
