Pharmacy Coordinator

NICU Clinical Pharmacy Specialist

Profile submitted by: Neonatal and Pediatric Pharmacy Department

Brief description of role or responsibilities

Brandi has many different roles and responsibilities in our department. As the clinical pharmacy specialist for the NICU, she has a direct impact every day in the way we manage conditions for the smallest and most vulnerable patient population. As our coordinator, she is responsible for ensuring safe medication practices for all the different departments that our pharmacy services. Brandi is active on many committees and is involved in quality improvement projects, development and revision of pre-printed orders, Medi-Tech expanse, training initiatives, and regional on-call services.

Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:

Brandi makes positive contributions to patient care and our department in many different ways. She is passionate about our patient population and this is evident in the way she spends her time working on numerous projects. She is supportive and patient which makes her an excellent leader. She is always available to discuss difficult scenarios, and help staff develop their skills.

Similar to other departments, recently we have faced challenges with workload due to staffing shortages, use of unfunded beds, and very high acuity patients. During this time, Brandi made many personal sacrifices to support our department and allow us to continue to provide a high level of care to our patients. This included working longer than usual hours, covering weekend shifts, and being available for support around the clock. She did all of this on top of her already busy workload and continued to prioritize the needs of the department/patients over her own. Her dedication to her practice is inspiring and motivational. She is a great role model and mentor for all of us to learn from. This level of commitment to her work demonstrates why we are so fortunate to have Brandi leading our department and why we hope to continue to recognize all she does for our department.
