Brief description of role or responsibilities
Bev is the pharmacy technician supervisor at the Surrey Memorial Hospital Pharmacy Department (Main Pharmacy supporting the adult population) where she is responsible for ensuring our staff of pharmacy technicians exceed the expected standards of practice, recruit and organize the orientation for new staff, and facilitate practicum rotations for pharmacy technician learners.
Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:
Bev deserves kudos for attracting and recruiting new staff in a very competitive job market. This ensured our department continued to operate with minimal impact from staffing shortages, which could have impacted medication processing turn around times, and helped avoid staff burnout.
Bev also took the initiative to review any gaps in our ability to meet compliance to model standards for pharmacy compounding of sterile products in our IV Rooms, and implemented whole scale changes to eliminate these gaps. This is a win for patient safety in terms of confidently creating products that are safe for administration.
We couldn’t have done this without Bev’s dedication to the field of pharmacy!
