Brief description of role or responsibilities
BC Cancer Provincial Drug Information and Cancer Drug Manual team is responsible for developing resources related to oncology drug delivery across BC Cancer regional sites and anywhere in the province, where cancer care is provided. The team’s mandate is to focus on the development, dissemination, and maintenance of information resources, which are used as the standard of oncology practice across the province. This includes development and maintenance of protocols, preprinted orders, patient drug handouts, briefing notes on drug shortages and recommendations, Systemic Therapy Update newsletter, infusion drug library resources, ChemoStability information and cancer drug monographs/Cancer Drug Manual, guidelines and policies.

Oncology is a highly specialized area of healthcare. Cancer therapy is often complex and involves oncology drugs with potentially serious toxicity. Provision of information pertaining to oncology drug therapy is particularly important, as there are many care providers and patients with limited experience and understanding of the complexities associated with chemotherapy.
BC Cancer Provincial Drug Information and Cancer Drug Manual team helps clinicians and care providers deliver these therapies effectively and safely. The team develops and coordinates appropriate information and education to cancer care providers to optimize the safe and effective delivery of cancer treatments to patients at the BC Cancer regional sites and across the province.
