Brief description of role or responsibilities
Allan tackles all aspects of complex patient care in Emergency, from making recommendations in a fast-paced environment to actively participating in CPR during code blue situations. He is also a dedicated preceptor for residents.
Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:
Allan is a very inspiring pharmacist – you can tell very quickly that Allan is very passionate about high quality patient care, has strong empathy for his patients and staff, and carries himself to high standards. He oriented me around the Emergency Department for the first time and it felt very easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle. However, Allan first and foremost was concerned about patient care. As pharmacists we may get caught up in workflow, computer screens, and drug names – but at the end of the day we are here for patient care and Allan is a great role model for patient-centred care.
Allan is also very involved with teaching new pharmacists and invests his time and wisdom into supporting the next generation of clinical pharmacists. He also enjoys grilling new pharmacists with questions which shows he really cares about teaching new pharmacists and sharing his infinite expertise!
