Brief description of role or responsibilities
Vanessa works as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (CPS) at BC Women’s Hospital, where she practices Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM).
Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:
Crossing paths with Vanessa as a preceptor during my PGY1 Pharmacy Residency to working today as colleagues covering Maternal Fetal Medicine has been a true stroke of luck in my career journey. Vanessa’s greatest strength, beyond her incredible depth and breadth of knowledge, lies in her enthusiasm as a mentor. Vanessa consistently integrates a pharmacist lens when navigating unique cases, and welcomes dialogue to create an exciting shared learning environment. As a CPS and mentor, Vanessa’s dedication for professional development and lifelong learning is evident through her exercising an approachable demeanour and continuing to challenge learners to grow, as she flawlessly weaves the two with her commitment to clinical practice.
Learning from and working alongside Vanessa, it’s evident she’s passionate about clinical pharmacy practice and her enthusiasm is contagious as I discovered a newfound interest in MFM following my elective rotation. Working today as colleagues, I can say Vanessa’s open demeanour and ability to foster an ongoing learning environment extends beyond incoming formal learners. She exemplifies continued professional development and embraces an ongoing curiosity with regards to the ever evolving world evidence based medicine. Vanessa is an inspiring and kind pharmacist, and I am beyond grateful that I have the opportunity to learn from and work alongside someone as impressive as her.
