Profile submitted by: Ming Chang
Brief description of role or responsibilities
Shelly is a residency-trained clinical pharmacist at Vancouver General Hospital. She provides clinical pharmacy services to multiple areas of the hospital including: Liver Transplant, Emergency Department, Burns/Trauma, Internal Medicine, and General Surgery.
Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:
Although Shelly completed her hospital residency only a couple of years ago, her professional maturity and clinical acumen make it hard to tell she is relatively new to the profession. I think the trust placed in her to cover for multiple key clinical areas in the hospital is a testament to her expertise. Having had the privilege of working alongside and learning from Shelly while we were cross-covering for the transplant service, I continue to be impressed and inspired by her dedication to advancing our profession and prioritizing patient well-being.
I have repeatedly witnessed Shelly go the extra mile to ensure our patients receive the best care possible. Whether it’s identifying drug therapy problems efficiently, digging through literature when there is no obvious solution, or coordinating with multiple specialty services and allied health professionals to ensure smooth implementation, she consistently puts patients’ best interests first. This level of commitment is truly commendable.
Additionally, I want to highlight Shelly’s outstanding work in pioneering the expanded role of the clinical pharmacist in the outpatient liver transplant clinic. She has taken ownership of much of the implementation process, ensuring a seamless transition, and thanks to her tireless efforts, we are now operating at a high efficiency level.
Thank you for all you do, Shelly!
