Brief description of role or responsibilities

The regional oncology pharmacy team consists of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Together they ensure safe and timely access to oncology treatment is provided to patients across Northern Health.

Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:

The Regional Oncology Pharmacy (ROP) team is a vital part of the oncology services provided by Northern Health. Despite working in different locations across British Columbia, they support nine Community Oncology Network (CON) clinics in Northern BC, including locations in Dawson Creek, Quesnel, and even Haida Gwaii.

The team collaborates closely with nurses, physicians at the CON sites, and specialists (oncologists and hematologists) throughout the province to ensure that Northern BC patients have safe access to cancer treatments. One of the most remarkable contributions of the ROP team is ensuring that patients receive timely access to medications, which can often be a challenging logistical task in rural communities. The team also provides virtual check-ins with patients, offering medication counseling and helping them manage most side effects from cancer treatments at home.

Thank you, ROP, for your hard work and dedication in ensuring that Northern BC patients can stay close to their home communities while receiving their cancer treatments!
