Brief description of role or responsibilities
Matt is a clinical pharmacist at Comox Valley Hospital. He works 50% of his time in the dispensary and the other 50% up on the ICU/Telemetry ward. Matt is also an official UBC Faculty of Pharmacy preceptor and a Health Sciences Association Union Steward. While up on the ICU ward, Matt is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team and actively participates in daily rounds. He makes clinical recommendations for his patients on both the ICU unit and the Telemetry unit. While in the dispensary, Matt helps evaluate all the in-patient medication orders for safety and appropriateness.
Description of how they are a great mentor or has positively influenced you and the pharmacy profession:
Matt is a kind and caring person who is extremely giving of his time to all those that he interacts with. He is a go to person when the staff have clinical questions that they would like some help with. Matt is one of our main UBC preceptors and spends a significant amount of time teaching our senior pharmacy students the ins and outs of hospital pharmacy practice. He is very knowledgeable and continually works on improving his clinical knowledge base. Matt has evolved into a well-rounded clinical pharmacist and is well liked by his teammates.
