Joyce Chang

Joyce serves as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in General Surgery at RCH and consistently demonstrates excellence across her diverse responsibilities, from direct patient care to leadership in clinical education. I am writing to highlight her outstanding mentorship, which has had a significant impact on my professional growth and confidence.

Despite her demanding workload, Joyce made a deliberate and generous commitment to mentor me. Our collaboration began in May 2025, prompted by a nurse educator’s request for guidance regarding SGLT2 inhibitors in surgical patients. When I expressed my interest in expanding my scope of practice as a BPMH pharmacist, Joyce immediately identified this as an excellent learning opportunity and encouraged me to take on the nursing in service presentation.

What distinguishes Joyce is the quality and depth of her support. She provided clear direction, curated helpful resources, and shared her own recent educational work on NSAIDs in surgical patients as a practical example. Throughout the four weeks leading up to the presentation, she was consistently available to answer questions, offer feedback, and ensure I felt supported every step of the way.

Because of Joyce’s thoughtful approach to mentorship, the preparation process became not just manageable, but genuinely rewarding. Under her guidance, I developed new skills, deepened my clinical knowledge, and gained confidence in my ability to contribute meaningfully to the surgical team. The resulting nursing in-service was very well received on our surgical wards. Since that initial experience, Joyce has continued to mentor me through several additional presentations, each time helping me grow in capability and professionalism.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from Joyce. She fosters an environment where learning feels safe, engaging, and purposeful. Her mentorship has inspired me to pursue ongoing development, and she exemplifies the qualities of an exceptional clinical leader and educator. Joyce’s commitment to supporting colleagues and elevating pharmacy practice makes her highly deserving of this submission.
