Brief description of role or responsibilities
Brandi is the Pharmacy Coordinator responsible for the clinical pharmacy program of the Maternal/Fetal, Pediatrics, and Neonatal Medicine units at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH). Brandi also has operational oversight of the SMH Neonatal & Pediatric Pharmacy, and has also been a long time member of CSHP.
Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:
Brandi is a Pharmacy Coordinator who cares for the planet as much as she cares about the specialized population of pediatric and neonatal patients. Brandi has implemented a planetary health initiative to reduce single use plastic bottles at SMH. Previously, single use plastic medication bottles were used to dispense liquid medications for pediatric patients. Since switching to re-usable glass bottles, in which the empty glass bottles (including the lids) are collected, cleaned, and sterilized through an autoclave, Brandi has helped divert 9000 plastic bottles per year from the landfill! Kudos to Brandi for successfully implementing this planetary health initiative in the SMH Neonatal & Pediatric Pharmacy.
