Brief description of role or responsibilities

Akshaya is a Clinical Pharmacist at BC Children’s & Women’s Hospital who covers pediatric neurology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric surgery, general pediatrics, palliative pediatric medicine, and specialty pediatric medicines (GI, CF, Ad Med, Metabolics).

Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:

Akshaya is an asset to the C&W Pharmacy Department as she is highly skilled, professional, flexible and adaptable. She has an abundance of experience and interest in covering various clinical areas in pediatrics and is trained in many distribution areas as well. Her willingness to help the department whenever or wherever we have a need is commendable. She’s taken on more responsibilities in the recent year when covering a maternity leave and has participated in reviewing various policies and protocols in pediatric neurology and pediatric palliative medicine. Over the last year Akshaya has also been developing her precepting skills and has not only precepted multiple pharmacy student learners, but also pediatric pharmacy residents. Recently she’s also precepted learners using the paired precepting model. Students have greatly benefited from her precepting, and she is much appreciated by the learners. Akshaya also has been a mentor to new staff in the past year and has oriented a few pharmacists in various clinical areas. She has positively impacted many and continues to do so within and outside the pharmacy department as well with her occasional involvement in nursing education on the topics of neurology or cardiology medications. We thank Akshaya for all her contributions to our department and patient care and look forward to seeing her continued professional growth here at C&W!
