Brief description of role or responsibilities
Mentor Profile: Krystin is the Clinical Supervisor for Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) as well as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Emergency Medicine at SMH.
Kudos Corner: As supervisor, Krystin supports the clinical pharmacy team with her extensive knowledge base and clinical experience, is responsible for scheduling pharmacist shifts to meet operational needs of the hospital, organizes monthly pharmacist meetings, and promotes staff well-being through a variety of initiatives such as monthly kudos sessions. As emergency CPS, Krystin continues to play an integral role in a very busy and fast paced emergency department to minimize medication errors and delays, and her expertise is heavily relied upon by all of ER staff including physicians, nurses, and allied health.
Describe how the individual or team made a positive contribution to patient care or their pharmacy department:
Mentor Profile: Krystin is an invaluable member of the emergency department at SMH. Her clinical expertise is often sought out by nursing and physician groups. I’ve witnessed countless examples of her timely interventions and have seen the significant impact she brings to patient care. She strives to create a learning-oriented environment for her residents, new staff, and learners from other disciplines.
As the newest member of the emergency medicine team, I feel encouraged and supported working with Krystin. I can always turn to her for advice or to ask my many questions. Debriefing about complex cases with Krystin has helped strengthen my decision-making abilities in this fast-paced environment. I feel challenged and motivated working alongside her in codes. Her calm demeanor and laser focus in those moments is inspiring.
I have also seen Krystin’s dedication to the wellbeing of pharmacy staff through the events she creates within the department. From themed monthly kudo events, to her creativity in our SMH Social Committee; Krystin is always brainstorming, organizing, and supporting new ideas.
